Description
My search for carnival glass to add to my little collection has led me to once a week out of town drives to frequently check the few antique shops in town for new pieces. I also constantly search online from various selling platforms.
My lovely Dugan Border Plants 3 in 1 ruffled bowl came from New Zealand. It was offered for bidding by their local community selling site. It's a good thing they accept members from Australia too. It was just described as a dark carnival bowl. The first time I saw it, I immediately wanted it. The seller acquired it more than 10 years ago in a garage sale and it had just been sitting on their display cabinet until they did renovations and need to get rid of the cabinet and its contents.
I did my research and soon found out what it was and that it was a sought after piece. Plus, further research yielded that its original mould was suspected to have burned in a fire in Dugan's mould room in 1912, thus its availability is scarce. That made me want it badly. So it was decided; I must win this lovely piece.
At the day of the online bidding I was so confident I would win it with a not so high price, but I was wrong. Someone else from New Zealand wanted it badly too. The bids were flying and I was shocked to still be putting my bids in, even if it was way beyond my maximum ceiling, but I really wanted it so I kept my pace until finally I won it. I was so ecstatic I got to own something that has a colorful and limited history. It is one of my most cherished carnival beauties. Cheers!
