Dugan Fanciful Lavender 3/1 Edge Bowl

Description

This gorgeous bowl had been in the late Sherman Hand collection for many years. Then Franny Smith owned it. Billy Smith (no relation) owned it next who then consigned it to the Remmens where the late Joyce Seale purchased it at the 2010 Tampa Bay auction.

At the auction, I can remember how my jaw dropped in astonishment as I watched her and another bidder duke it out in a fierce bidding war. As it happened, this bowl was one of the only items I felt I had to buy at this auction. Her tenacity had me awed. I was so stunned with all the action I couldn't get in there edgewise to bid before the hammer fell. This was probably because it didn't seem right after the battle she'd just fought. After all, she was my role model.

You can imagine how thrilled I was when she offered to sell it to me a year later through the coaxing of a mutual friend. She'd had a chance to enjoy it for a while and knew just how much it meant to me.

Joyce has since passed away but I will always remember her for the great woman she was. Her keen eye for color and her strong drive to achieve excellence were reflected in her famous collection. Everyone who knew her will agree she was the rainbow that stretched out over our hobby. She told it how it was and lived life on her terms. No regrets.
