Dugan Twigs Amethyst Non-Crimped Three-Ruffled Tri-Corner Vase

Description

I purchased this cutie from Dr. Richard Cinclair on eBay a few years ago. I could not resist the amazing color I saw on my monitor screen so I took a chance that it would be just a pretty in hand. I had some very stiff competition and this one fetched more than the average price of any three-ruffled versions that we found listed anywhere.

I found out who my competitors were when I brought it to show all my friends at one of the New England Carnival Glass conventions. I handed it over to my pal Paul Berube who remarked, "So you're the little stinker who outbid me on this!" Don & Kris Dorais were also there saying they were underbidders as well in that eBay auction and congratulated me. At that time I didn't know how serious they were in collecting the Twigs pattern.

I had so much fun at that convention I completely forgot I left this little vase with him and later on he asked if I was looking for something as he reached in his pocket and pulled it out. That's how tiny it is. It stands 4 1/8" tall, 3" wide and has a 2 1/8" base diameter. Yes, Paul always makes me laugh. People at conventions are like family. They always look after you and make you feel at home. You can leave your troubles and worries on the doorstep and walk inside and know you are loved.

Just recently, there was an article published in the International Carnival Glass Association (ICGA) newsletter, known as The Pump, about Dugan & Diamond Twig vases by Dr. Larry Keig (pronounced Keg). Larry is coming aboard the Showcase as our in-house Dugan specialist. Through the years he has written several fine articles on Dugan patterns that I feel should be brought to light for all you fine folks to enjoy.

We present to you the Donald & Kristine Dorais collection of Twig vases posted individually, each presented by Larry Keig. Additionally, a link is provided, courtesy of the ICGA, where you may go browse his entire article on their website. I'd like to thank them for their wonderful contribution to Showcase.

It is my hope that other Carnival Glass clubs will also offer some of their interesting articles, that have been meticulously written by their members, to be shown here, representing their corresponding subjects. The Showcase was created as a gathering place for all collectors to come join in the fun of sharing information, no matter what club they belong to or even if they don't belong to a club at all.

The ICGA will be the first to do so and may it be a fine example of what we all, as one community, can accomplish here on Showcase together. It will be my dream come true.

I have several pictures of this little Twig vase because I have access to it and because it was irresistibly photogenic. The seven other vases to be shown have limited pictures but they are gorgeous.
