Northwood Vining Poppies "Topaz" Vaseline Stretch Glass Compote

Description

This beautifully iridized compote (comport) is the only known example of Northwood's Vining Poppies at this time. It has the Northwood mark showing a circle with a very faint N.

Its color is known as Topaz in the Stretch Glass world. In Carnival Glass, it's color is referred to as Vaseline.  It's a Vaseline Glass collectible as well so there is much competion amongst collectors for this type of glass.

The pattern is found on the outer side of the bowl and, unlike the majority of Carnival glass, this pattern is incised or sunken into the surface rather than raised. This is known as "intaglio".

It measures 8 3/4” across, 6" tall and has a twelve-sided, 4 1/2" in diameter base.

Tom Burns auctioned it many years ago. We purchased it from a Mickey Reichel auction in September of 2004.
