Northwood Poinsettia & Lattice Mysterious Bowl

Description

In 2006, Stan Hoegerman and his wife originally found this odd bowl at a pottery and crafts shop off I-95 in Georgia during a road trip. It was sold at the 2013 Woodsland convention to Gary Lickver who then sold it to me at the 2013 New England Club convention thereafter. It was love at first sight as I was instantly overwhelmed by its enchanting Wisteria or Ice Lavender glow that seemed to constantly change.

The color blue, as seen in the feet and marie, is not a familiar color in Carnival glass. If you can believe it, an example of every color blue known to Carnival glass was there in Gary's room display so we had the opportunity to compare this bowl along side each. One at a time, we ruled out Aqua, Renninger, Ice, Sapphire, Powder, Teal and Celeste blues.

Looking down into the center of this bowl, you can see three dots of blue where the feet join the bowl. This richly saturates and highlights the three leaves just above each foot. The back ribs are like golden rays of the sun streaming outwards. This is one of the most intricate and cleverly dementional patterns in Carnival glass right down to the lattice work and stippling.
