Maker Unknown Desert Palms & Stars Marigold Bowl

Description

Mike Carwile gave this bowl to me as a gift in March of 2015. He thought since I named it for him that I should own it. I was so happy to have it because I truly love it. It is the 3rd item he has let me name.

He says,

"During my travels of buying, selling and swapping Carnival Glass back at the end of 2014,  I saw this low 7” ruffled bowl sitting in the “spare parts” backroom of a friend of mine and ask him about it. He had no information to offer me, not even remembering where he had acquired it, but I thought it interesting enough to ask if he wanted to sell or swap me out for it, and he did.
It’s somewhat of a busy pattern as you can see, and I believe the pattern name Christina gave it here describes it quite well. Although a bit hard to see because of it’s small size, there are tiny Star of David designs inside each of the three sections of swirls with dots going around the outer edge of each swirl.  The other alternating three panels each show a palm tree within a courtyard wall. It has a ground base."

That just about covers it. I always keep an extra eye out while I'm searching through old European manufacturers catalogues to see if I overlooked this pattern. It seems to have eluded me. This type of iridescence, the ground base, the subject matter and the sharpness of the pattern are all traits not found in American made Carnival Glass.

I had the opportunity to take some extra close-ups against a dark background for heightened detail since I now have it in hand. Many thanks to Mike for the wonderful keepsake and the opportunity to name it.
