Imperial Octagon Green Square Bowl

Description

I’ve had this bowl for some time and decided now was a good time to share it.

At first glance it simply seems to be a large 12-inch green bowl with an exterior geometric pattern, no big deal.  But when you consider that it’s green and the pattern is Imperial’s “Octagon”, and note the one particular photo, you’ll see that it’s a square bowl, scalloped with a saw-tooth edge, and nary a ruffle is found on this example.  Both the color and shape are considered to be quite rare for this pattern.  As a matter of fact, if you find any piece of Octagon in green you’ve done well.

The only other green piece this large that I’ve seen is shown on Dave Doty’s site and it’s a 12” ruffled bowl.

The marigold iridescence doesn’t show up very well here, as it was really hard trying to get it to come out in the photos.  Although the color may not be exceptionally bold, it’s nice enough and easy to see in hand. Nonetheless, it’s the base color, size and shape that I was impressed with enough to make the purchase.

If you find any shape in the Octagon pattern in green glass, that doesn’t have a logo, I’d suggest buying it, although I’m not even sure if there are pieces to be found with the Imperial logo.
