Imperial Chrysanthemum Green Chop Plate Signed Nuart

Description

I have been collecting carnival glass since my early 20’s and I have always wanted to find that rare piece of glass.  Don’t get me wrong, I have found my fair share of bargains but to say I have found a rare piece of glass would be a negative ghost rider.  Fast forward to the latter half of January 2018 and I can finally say I have found that piece of glass.  As most of you are aware I search eBay high and low looking for good deals, bargains and that one piece that may slip through the cracks. The beginning of the year has been a very stressful one as both of my parents ended up sick and in the hospital at the same time. One of the few nights I was home I jumped onto eBay at around 1 a.m.

In that fog stupor of near exhaustion and sleep, I stumbled upon a listing for RARE green color CARNIVAL GLASS CHRYSANTHEMUM PLATE by “imperial” as is.  I have described it just as the seller did on eBay. The first thing that caught my eye was RARE and green color. I opened the listing and the picture was blurry. I thought to myself “why would they post a blurry picture?” I could see from the blurry picture that the item had the Nuart mark. I thought to myself, "No way!”

I went to Doty’s site and made sure the mark was in the correct place. Mind you, I am in a stupor at this time and my brain was not firing on all cylinders.  When I went back to the listing the photos loaded correctly. I was in shock by now as the sheer beauty of this plate and listing finally hit me. I looked up at the listing and saw it was a buy it now with free shipping.  I quickly looked at all the pictures and realized that this in fact was the real deal. By chance I caught the item just as it was listed by the seller.

When I looked at the price I was in even more shock. This plate was listed for what a great marigold Peacock and Urn bowl would sell for in today's market. When I finally decided to hit the "Buy it Now" button, I was afraid that in my piddling around someone else may have found the listing. What seemed like forever, the transaction finally came up as complete. I paid for the item and went to bed.

When I awoke the next morning, I thought to myself I had dreamed about finding a green Imperial Chrysanthemum chop plate.  I did not think much about it as I have weird and bizarre dreams all the time. After showering and getting ready to go to the hospital I picked up my phone and saw a notification that a green RARE plate had shipped. It hit me that it was no dream at all. I opened the posting and sure enough I had gotten it. I thought, "Holy crap what did I pay for it/"....I looked at the listing and about fell over. It finally hit me that I had found an old Nuart Imperial Green Chrysanthemum chop plate.

Mind you, in all my years of collecting I had only seen one and it belonged to the Morgan’s in Texas. They're great people and wonderful friends who have an amazing eye for iridescence and color.

Next came the agonizing wait for the piece to arrive. To say I was a nervous wreck awaiting the arrival of the piece was an understatement. Several days went buy and I saw that it had finally arrived in Dallas. In my anxiety induced state, it took another four days for the tracking number to inform me the package was finally be delivered to my home. When I got home, I went to the door and there was no package and no slip. I was really on high anxiety and about to flip out. I said to Jeff, “I cannot believe it is not here.” He really did not say much as he does not listen to me.  About twenty minutes later, he asked if I had seen the package. "Uh no, I have looked everywhere." was my reply. The crazy mailman had left the package at my garage entry and he had put it in the garage and I walked right past it.  How it did not get run over is a mystery to me.

I am honored to get to share this wonderful piece of glass with my fellow collectors.  Remember, we just never know what is lurking out in the world, just waiting to be discovered.  Happy hunting games and “May the odds be ever in your favor.”
