Eda Sweden Grada Blue Vase

Description

We love vases be it American or European. The one thing about European vases is that there are many different unusual shapes. You hear a name of a European vase that you have not seen before and you are usually in for a surprise. This is one of those vases.

Just arrived from Sweden (August 2016) is this vase that was made by Eda of Sweden. This is a "Grada" vase. It is a light blue in base glass color with multi-colored iridescence all around.

Its unusual shape is 6" high with a 4" top and it has a 4 1/4" base with a 28 point star on the bottom.

It actually looks more like a goblet to me than a vase, but it is what it is and we are thrilled to have it in our collection.

We asked Glen Thistlewood about this pattern and she said, "Grada is actually the "Ostersund" candy jar, without its lid. Clever Eda Glasbruk marketed the piece both with and without a lid, as part of their Facett range. Ostersund with the lid (as a candy jar) and Grada without the lid, as a vase. Very smart marketing . We show the Ostersund candy jar in our Eda Gallery. "

Thank you Glen for the wonderful history of the Grada/Ostersund pattern. Very interesting! (Photo courtesey of the Thistlewoods of www.CarnivalGlassWorldwide, and John & Frances Hodgson.)
