Dugan Twigs Variant Lavender Vase

Description

Larry Keig once wrote this for a similar vase owned by Arnold and the late Dorothy Snell.

"The Twigs Variant pattern is different in one significant respect from standard vases. It is missing the vine-like twigs on the paneled portion of the receptacle.

The variant’s absent element has led me to believe its mold was a prototype soon replaced by the more elaborately designed standard Twigs. It is probable it, like the other, was produced circa 1906, just before the non-iridescent opal vases were put on the market. If that’s the case, this earlier mold was set aside for a time, brought to life, perhaps by accident, three or four years later for a minuscule carnival run.

The base color of the only Twigs Variant I know of is lighter than standard vases, lavender rather than amethyst. Its iridescence is a comely, even pastel."

Yes, Mr. Keig is right, this one is lavender, just like the one that is shown here on Showcase belonging to Arnie Snell. Lavender is a very light amethyst, pinkish purple, that looks to be muddled with a brownish tinge. See the photo and you can see it is not a glamorous color until iridescence is applied. Then watch out! Beautiful things happen. The iridescence on mine is not as matte as the Snell's. It has more shine, stronger, more vivid colors, and it definitely has its own personality. I just had to buy it because I have always admired theirs so much and I knew they would probably never have a cause to sell it.

This one was purchased online at a Matthew Wroda Auction sale in January of 2018. I was delighted with it the moment I unwrapped it. I still love the one the one Arnie has, with its intrigue of delicate colors, but this will do quite well!

It's 4 1/2 inches tall, with a top opening of 2 3/8" and a bottom diameter of 2 3/8" as well.

It has plenty of colors for iridescence. The dark pinks and Chartreuse-like golds with blue accents make it a class act.
