Dugan Farmyard Purple 3/1 Edge Bowl

Description

I purchased this 11" Farmyard bowl from Gary Lickver's private collection during the New England Carnival Glass Association's "Spring Fling" meeting held in Wells, Maine.

He purchased it at the 2008 ICGA convention auction held in St. Louis, Missouri. This was a Seeck Auction featuring the collection of Marie Capps, who owned this bowl, and that of Marie McGee who sold some beautiful Millersburg glass that day. Jim Seeck described this auction as having lots of rarity, lots of variety and lots of fabulous iridescence.

Marie Capps, of Oakhurst, California, originally purchased this bowl from Lloyd Ward, a purveyor of Carnival glass. She had an amazing eye for color and is especially known for her keen insight into the future of Carnival, having acquired many extraordinary pieces of pastel examples (ice blue, ice green & white) way before they became all the rage amongst collectors. I had the pleasure of meeting Marie at a Sunshine State Convention a few years ago. She is a fine, sweet lady who is loved by all.

There are three photos, courtesy of the NECGA, taken by Gary Sullivan, of me and the bowl during the night of the Spring Fling when I purchased it. What fun we had that night. We all gathered in Gary Lickver's room for some great conversation inspired by his beautiful display of glass for sale. I was still there into the wee hours of the morning, as always.

The last two photos are from the Seeck Auction catalogue. His description read:

"FARMYARD 3 IN 1 RUFFLED BOWL - PURPLE - UNBELIEVABLE ELECTRIC BLUE IRID., A FANTASTIC PIECE OF GLASS!"
