Dugan Big Basketweave Electric Blue Squatty Vase

Description

This squatty amethyst gem in sizzling electric blue was acquired in October 2014 at a county antique fair.

The minute I saw this remarkable Dugan vase I knew it was going home with me. It really took my breath away when I first set eyes upon it and I simply had to possess it. This find was a real delight for me as I have wanted a nice squatty Big Basketweave for a very long time. These squatty vases are highly prized by vase collectors as they’re very hard to come by.

The iridescent color is absolutely amazing, as is its height at a mere 4 7/8”. It’s barely taller than a tumbler, straight from the mould with no swinging, ruffles, or reshaping. I call this treasure my “Unswung Hero”.

These squatty Big Basketweave vases have been reported in marigold, blue, ice blue, amethyst, lavender, peach opal, black amethyst and white. The base glass on this one is a deep, very dark fiery purple. Marigold and white are the most commonly found. Amethyst, ice blue and black amethyst are quite rare, with peach opal being even more so.

When this vase is ruffled, it can also be used as the base for the Persian Garden fruit bowl.

To my surprise and delight, this vase was featured on the front cover of the ICGA Pump Newsletter and it was also included in the information packed article written by Dr. Larry Keig. Please visit the article with the link below.
