Imperial Colonial Lady Purple Vase Whimsey

Description

One day I received an email from a good friend of ours. He said that he knows of a Colonial Lady vase that I would be interested in. Now, he has been here and knows that we have a really nice Colonial Lady vase already, so, of course I would be in interested. He sent me a photo, and I was totally surprised.

The person who had it did not want to be recognized because he has more glass he is selling. He has had this piece for a great number of years and finally decided to part with it. Our good friend thought of us right away because of the large collection of Imperial glass that we have and said that this piece definitely belonged in our collection. What a very nice thing to say.

He made all the arrangements and a check was sent to the owner. When it arrived, it was better then the photo. Iridescence top to bottom and all the way around. Satiny iridescence but that's ok. It makes it look like a piece of art glass instead of carnival glass.

Did I mention that this is a whimsy? I guess not. Here it is compared to our Colonial Lady vase that we already had. They are both six inches tall. I have never heard of another one like this but that doesn't mean that another doesn't exist. Only time will tell. The top has eight indentations, like that that are on an ashtray. Pinched in maybe to be used as a bud vase, just speculating. Whatever its intentions and whoever made it has created something very special which will be treasured forever by us until the next person gets it somewhere down the road.
