Description

Billy Mizell passed away March 20, 2016. He was a great friend and fellow collector to hundreds of people and one of the greatest mentors in Carnival Glass history. Our deepest condolences, to a great man who will be missed, from all of us here on Carnival Glass Showcase. ~Christina Katsikas

~Theresa Mizell Shrader, Billy's daughter...
Billy Mizell passed from this earth late last night. He went peacefully in his sleep. I always thought of my dad as larger than life and able to do anything he set his mind to do. He was always willing to lend a hand to help others and had a ready smile for everyone. He loved to tell stories and entertain people. It was hard watching my dad decline over the last several years as the bindings of his illness kept him from being who he really was. But he is now free of the pain and suffering and can rejoin family in heaven that have gone on ahead. Dad will have a funeral and be buried in his home state of Tennessee in a couple of weeks and we also plan to have a memorial service in Maryland. Thank you again to everyone who has prayed and sent messages of support and comfort, it really meant a lot to my family.

We lost a wonderful friend to Carnival Glass and to this club, Mid-Atlantic Carnival Glass Club, in particular. Billy Mizell passed away after a long struggle with various health issues. He was a charter member of MACGC and one of the main reasons why the club exists today. Many collectors from all the clubs knew him and he will be missed. Rest in peace Billy...

~Pamela Hamilton...

What a nice person. I will always remember Mr. Bill as the first talker I ever saw back in 2002, my very first carnival glass convention - in Hagerstown, MD - Mid Atlantic. He was giving a very nice talk and welcomed my friend and I as new to attending, which we were. He made us feel very welcome and as a result, we returned the very next year. Sending sincere sympathy to Miss Sharon and their family.

~Leon Travis...

Sad news. I really appreciated Bill's hard work to keep bringing the Jamboree to the Mid-Atlantic area. Prayers to Sharon and family.

~Cal Hackeman, Stretch Glass Society...

All of us at the Stretch Glass Society are saddened by the news of Bill’s passing.  Bill & Sharon have been pillars of the Stretch Glass Society for years.  Bill often served on our Audit Committee, Bill & Sharon shared carnival glass tumblers and “crossover” stretch glass with us at various conventions.  Sharon and Bill have found lots of great stretch glass for us on their travels; I’m the very happy owner of several hard to find pieces of stretch glass from their purchases.  As others have already said, Bill was great at telling stories and entertaining many of us.  We will miss his hearty laugh, his stories, his love for and knowledge of iridescent glass and most of all his friendship.  Our thoughts go out to Sharon and all of Bill’s family.

~Phil in Phoenix....
